The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County Seeks Volunteer Bell Ringers
October 6, 2008
The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County (TSA-WC) is calling on
all residents to help fill the need for Red Kettle volunteer bell
ringers this holiday season. TSA-WC needs to fill more than 3,500
shifts from November 14 through December 24 (excluding Sundays and
Thanksgiving).
TSA-WC is kicking off its drive for bell ringers early this
year to ensure there will be enough volunteers stationed at the 35
red kettles that will be located throughout Washtenaw County.
Volunteer bell ringers helped TSA-WC save more than $15,000 in
expenses during the 2007 Red Kettle fundraising campaign and a
savings of $20,000 is this year’s target.
“We know times are tough in Washtenaw County and all across the
state of Michigan, but our volunteer bell ringers are really the
backbone of our Christmas fundraiser,” said Washtenaw County
Coordinator Major John Williams. “Donating a few hours of time to
ring a bell can really make a difference to support those in need.”&

Bell ringing opportunities throughout Washtenaw County are
posted at
www.sawashtenaw.org.
Shifts are four hours (shorter shifts by special arrangement).
Volunteers will receive a confirmation of their shifts as soon as
they sign up and an e-mail reminder will be sent just prior to the
selected date.
Funds raised during the annual Red Kettle Campaign are used to
assist local families and individuals throughout the year. Current
economic conditions have led to a significant increase in requests
for food, eviction prevention and utility assistance.
The Salvation Army (TSA), an international movement, is an
evangelical part of the universal Christian church dedicated to
serving people in need without discrimination. Operating in
Washtenaw County for more than 100 years, the non-profit addresses
the physical and spiritual needs of the area through various
