Encourage Our Lawmakers to Keep Overtime Exemptions
Brandt Coultas
August 23, 2006
Earlier this year, the Legislature and the Governor agreed to
raise the minimum wage to $6.95 on October 1, 2006, $7.15 on July
1, 2007 and $7.40 on July 1, 2008.
Adopting a state minimum wage law that is higher than the
federal minimum wage law has triggered a change that could require
employers to pay overtime for certain employees that have
previously been exempt from overtime laws.
This is a problem that needs to be fixed as soon as
possible. We need the Michigan Legislature to act together to
fix this before the new minimum wage goes into effect on October
1.
Please join us in sending an email to our legislators from
Washtenaw County asking them to keep overtime exemptions the same
and fix this problem. To send an email to our legislators,
