The Chamber supports the Calthorpe plan.  Downtown development should be encouraged to further strengthen the area’s economy and tax base.  The Chamber supports higher density development in Ann Arbor and in corridors outside of Ann Arbor as part of a commitment to responsible growth.

The Calthorpe plan consists of a number of strategies to encourage downtown development.  We urge the City of Ann Arbor to set a clear implementation plan for key strategies.  Changing the zoning downtown and improving the development process for all projects (not just downtown projects) should be included in this implementation plan.  The City should not implement further obstacles to developing projects downtown.
