Community Involvement

In 2007, Business Advocacy efforts of the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce recognized a need for increased participation by the business community in policy-making venues.

Part of our 2008 agenda includes an effort to assist and encourage Chamber members with their involvement in our community through a board or commission or a community opportunity. To further facilitate this effort we conducted a membership-wide survey. The purpose of the survey was to measure businesses current engagement and interest in civic and community opportunities.

Encouraging community involvement was discussed in detail at Impact 2007. A large percentage of Impact attendees agreed that participation through civic engagement with our elected leaders is necessary so our community leaders may develop policies in a way that is reflective and informed of the business community needs. Our leaders can only represent their whole constituency if they are informed of their constituency needs and desires for our community.

With this in mind, the Chamber will support your efforts to get involved and participate in the governmental process – Benefiting our community and in turn your business. There are many opportunities available through Washtenaw County, the City of Ann Arbor, and the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
